A two-month journey around Australia is being halted in the wake of the death of an elderly woman who was stranded by the cruise liner on a distant island.

Suzanne Rees had been trekking on the remote island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The vessel departed without her and came back several hours later after the crew realised the passenger was missing.

An extensive search operation found her person the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are examining the event, together with investigators and the state coroner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer said that guests and crew on the Coral Adventurer were told that the rest of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and previous technical problems".

"Based on limited facts we have been informed, it appears that there was a breakdown of care and ordinary reasoning," she stated.
