Christantus Uche Fuels Straightforward Palace Triumph at Shelbourne.
Despite entering their first-ever European campaign, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without key players like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a commanding result that all but secures them a place in the Conference League qualifying rounds.
A further victory in their upcoming match against Finnish KuPS should be enough to seal direct passage to the last 16, especially following a prior setback against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Seize the Moment
This match provided a platform for several Palace's lesser-used players to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second beginning after joining on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a well-taken finish. Forward Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second game in succession.
A Shelbourne team that had finished their league season proved outmatched against a largely second-string Palace lineup. The Londoners were further depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg injuries.
Control Established from the Start
Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A slick passing sequence in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward finish.
Youngster Adam Wharton went close soon after, driving a powerful effort over the bar. Nketiah then claimed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the referee dismissed the appeals.
The formerArsenal striker didn't need to wait long to get his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's effort had hit the post.
The home side were hanging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for two agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the crossbar with a header from a corner.

The match was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past a series of comically weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to withdraw key players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring with his very first touch, only to see his shot blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then blazed a glaring chance, indicating there is still room for improvement in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, capping an otherwise positive night for the traveling side.
